Owned by the community

Run by local volunteers, for local people.

How hiring works

Four simple steps

1

Check the calendar

See which dates and times are free for the space you want.

2

Book online

Pick a slot and send your request — a volunteer confirms it.

3

Meet a volunteer

A short health and safety briefing at the start of your hire, and you get the door and alarm codes. No keys to collect.

4

Enjoy it, then tidy up

Leave the hall clean and undamaged and your bond comes straight back.

Hire questions

Can we bring our own alcohol?

Yes, BYO is fine for private functions. Selling alcohol needs a special licence from the council.

Can we hire the hall for a 21st or teenage party?

Sorry — we don't take bookings for teenage (e.g. 18th) or 21st celebrations.

What time does an event have to finish?

Our resource consent covers noise until midnight only. Events must finish by midnight and everyone must be out of the car park by 12.30am.

Who cleans up?

The hirer — the hall must be left to the standard you found it. Your bond is refunded in full if the building is clean, tidy and undamaged after our post-hire inspection.

How do we get in? Do we get a key?

No keys are issued. A volunteer meets you at the start of your set-up for a health and safety briefing and gives you the door and alarm codes.

Is set-up and pack-down included in the hire time?

It needs to be — please include set-up and breakdown time in your booking. Use of the hall is non-exclusive unless we have agreed otherwise.
